The National Insurance Institute publishes the poverty report for 2022 which reveals that approximately 1.98 million people in Israel live below the poverty line, the poverty rate of the population as a whole stands at 20.2% - a fifth of the public.


• The data on the city of Beit Shemesh: after Modi'in Illit and Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh is the third poorest of the settlements in Israel (over 80 thousand inhabitants), 36% of the families in the city are below the poverty line, 41.3% of the total residents of the city are defined as poor.


In the analysis, the incidence of poverty in Beit Shemesh rises - almost half of the city's children, 48.9%, live below the poverty line, and 22.1% of the total number of senior citizens.

The "depth of poverty" index in the city, which expresses the gap between the income of the poor and the poverty line, stands at 41.5%, the "severity of poverty" measured by the very poor stands at 24.2%.
