After the approval of the composition of the Religious Council at the City Council plenum last night (Wednesday), the Beit Shemesh Municipality is moving on to the next stage - the election of the city's rabbis.

A senior source in the municipality told the Beit Shemesh News Network that it is possible that for the first time two city rabbis will be elected, one Sephardi and one Ashkenazi, and not just one rabbi as has been the custom until now. Sources familiar with the details indicate that the final decision on the matter is under the discretion of Mayor Shmulik Greenberg and is expected to be made soon, with the beginning of the official process for electing the city's rabbis.

The city of Beit Shemesh, which has waited a long time for the appointment of new city rabbis, is now facing a significant crossroads that may shape its religious and communal character in the coming years.
